Wisp Ski Resort Professional Review and Guide

"The Allegheny Mountain microclimate in Maryland’s western panhandle contrasts with the state’s otherwise temperate conditions. Downhill skiing does exist in Maryland, and only here at Wisp—the sole alpine beneficiary of Garrett County’s strong winters. The ski area is perched 3,100 feet high atop Marsh Mountain, not far from West Virginia and Pennsylvania borders. Wisp’s base lodge and East Ridge sit directly off Deep Creek Lake, the state’s largest inland lake with more than 65 miles of shoreline. Wisp is no secret to many Mid-Atlantic skiers, as it is one of the longest-running operations in the region.

Just five years ago, an incredible 200-plus inches fell on Marsh Mountain. And with the resort’s superior airless snowmaking system, you can count on November openings and over 120 skier days per year, on average. Lift chairs, though slow and somewhat dated, afford great mountain, valley, and lake views. This eTrail contains a thorough description of the resort including driving directions, mountain statistics, trail profiles, extensive lodging & dining information, travel tips, and much more."
