Smallwood State Park Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Smallwood State Park is a relatively small park, at 630 acres. However, it looms large in its year-round status as Maryland’s premier host for bass-fishing tournaments. Record fish are frequently pulled from the Potomac at Smallwood State Park. Even if you’re not interested in a tournament, the fishing here is sublime, and pervasive.
You can fish for bass, carp, catfish, hardhead, and perch; a Chesapeake Bay Sportfishing License is required. Hiking trails are minimal—the entire trail system is barely 2 miles. Along with its history and fishing, another Smallwood attraction is its proximity to Mattawoman Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River."
