Patuxent Research Refuge: Cash Lake Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Hidden away in suburban Maryland between Washington and Baltimore lies a huge wildlife refuge where hikers can find a diverse and spacious landscape, open skies, many wild birds and animals, a few vestiges of the past, and much tranquility.
The refuge is worth visiting at any time of year, but the greatest wildlife activity occurs in the spring and fall. More than 200 animal species have been recorded at the refuge, so we suggest taking along field glasses and a bird book (or an expert birder), plus the refuge’s own bird checklist, available at the contact station. A wildflower book or an expert friend can also be seasonally helpful."
