Prince George's Urban Farmland Ramble Professional Review and Guide
"Just like Prince William Forest Park, the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center provides an oasis of green in a rapidly urbanizing area. Whereas the park offers a pristine look at acres of woodlands, the research center preserves another vanishing landscape: that of the American farm.
As the center says in its own brochure, “From the air, the center looks like a 9-mile-long, 4-mile-wide quilted blanket of green fields, pastures, and orchards.” All this can be found only 15 miles northeast of the city. Along with the quiet roads, this makes the center a favorite both for bike racers in training and day-trippers coming from the neighboring University of Maryland. Things to see: Rustic farm buildings, fields, ponds, log cabin, and creeks."
