Poplar Lick Run, New Germany State Park Professional Review and Guide
"Following wide, color-coded cross-country ski trails, this is a pleasant walk along Poplar Lick Run, a babbling stream offering many opportunities to stop and enjoy the woods. There is an interlude to a cool pine grove. Because the hike covers mostly wooded areas, there are few opportunities for long views of the landscape.
Hemlocks, mountain laurel, azaleas, and the sound of tumbling water await you on this woodland hike. From the information board, follow the green blazes on the park road for 150 yards; then turn right (west), following the yellow blazes. Cross the bridge and stay left with the blazes. Rhododendrons and ferns form the understory beneath the hemlocks shading the stream on your left.
Pass through an old picnic area and water treatment facility, and then duck into woods and climb a small knob, with Poplar Lick Run on your left. Continue past Hike 4 Poplar Lick RunMaryland’s western parks and forests are ideal for winter snowshoeing and skiing."
