Gambrill State Park Yellow Trail

Gambrill State Park: Yellow Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Maintained by MORE (Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts), the Yellow Trail in Gambrill State Park is a challenging and demanding ride. Gambrill is one of the most popular mountain biking destinations in the state of Maryland, attracting riders from as far south as Richmond, Virginia.

The Yellow Trail, at 6.5 miles, is the longest loop in the Gambrill trail system and the perfect trail for up-and-coming mountain bikers looking to test their mettle on some difficult singletrack. This is not a trail for the novice rider, and will be extremely challenging even to those who are well-versed in rugged terrain."

The trail is well maintained and a great destination for enthusiasts looking for a technical challenging ride. I would not recommend these trails for beginners due to the numerous steep climbs and rocky sections. The new extension to the yellow trail is excellent. Great destination for mountain biking.

Did this yesterday and I was left with a perfect indication where my skills were sorely needed to be honed. The rock gardens were great, but I was expecting slightly more of a challenge--not to be taken slightly though! The hills...my god, those hills! Wow! You will definitely be huffing and puffing up the killer ones. In my opinion, no where else in the area is a better place to evaluate your skills, or break in a bike. Don't worry if you have hikebike up some of the hills, we all do at times!

This is a good trail, and the better your skills the more your be able to take advantage of it. I'm a novice so I found myself walking on some of the climbs covered with jagged rocks. Even so I enjoyed the trip and will go again.

In my humble opion Gambrill has the best riding trails within a short drive from DC. The Yellow (with a bit of the black thrown in) gives you a great mix of tight single track, rocks, roots, climbs, decents. In short this trail is what a good trail bike is made for.

Sure do love Fall at Gambrill. Share with hikers and other users, dog walkers, etc. Such a great trail for riding fast, riding rocks, raging, testing your shocks. Nice new sections, thanks to MORE and City Bikes for new trail construction and lets keep it clean and pristine.
