Susquehanna State Park River Trails

Susquehanna State Park: River Trails Professional Review and Guide

"Follow the mighty Susquehanna River upstream to Conowingo Dam—then return via an obscure wooded foot trail. If any Baltimore outdoor enthusiast needs a reminder why he or she is lucky to live in this area, Susquehanna State Park provides it. Just consider the Susquehanna River’s impressive statistics: 444 miles long, a 13 million-acre drainage basin, the second-largest watershed in the eastern United States.

The river begins as an overflow of Otsego Lake in New York and runs through three states before draining into Chesapeake Bay, just south at Havre de Grace, Maryland, pouring 19 million gallons of fresh water into the bay every minute."

We started our hike at about the halfway mark (at the bridge over the creek on Craig's Corner Road) and headed north to the dam. This is less of a hike and more of a (long) walk (about two miles each way). You walk on an old railroad bed with little elevation. The entire walk hugs the Susquehanna River which is pretty and great is you're a bird watcher. Gets a little boring after a while.
