Mystic Lake

Mystic Lake Professional Review and Guide

"A moderate day trip to the deepest lake in the Beartooths. For those who aren't interested in strenuous mountain climbing or long arduous adventures, the Mystic Lake trail offers an excellent choice for an unhurried day in the wilderness.

The climb doesn't seem that steep, but by the time the trail reaches the dam at the eastern end of Mystic Lake, it has asecended 1,200 feet in 3 miles. There are 2 developed campgrounds on the way to the trailhead."

I like this trail because it provides spectacular views deep in the Beartooth wilderness without quite the pain and strain that other hikes in the area require. It is pretty moderate with the exception of some rocks and boulders that are a little tricky to navigate. Once you get to the lake the view is incredible.
