Jug Bay Natural Area-Patuxent River Park Professional Review and Guide
"At a wide spot on the Patuxent River, this 2,OOO-acre preserve is crisscrossed by 8 miles of trails. Our 4.5-mile loop, while not accessing every trail, manages to keep you in the woods the entire time while offering the best river views."
--Bill and Mary Burnham, Best Hikes Near Washington D.C. (Falcon Guides).
This was a pleasant and easy walk. A deer greeted me not even ten steps into the trail, and the song birds escorted me through the Nature Trail section on the board walk at the beginning of the hike. I recommend carrying the park map along with this Trail Guide since the multiple brown Nature Trail sign going seemingly in every direction at the beginning can be confusing unless you have an overview of the whole park to accompany the Trail Guide/map. Park maps are available for free inside the Visitor's Center or in a bin outside the front door if the Center is closed.
