Locust Grove Nature Center Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"One of four Montgomery County nature centers, the Locust Grove Nature Center is in the southwestern part of the county in Cabin John Regional Park. This park offers residents playing fields, playgrounds, an indoor ice skating rink, tennis courts, a children’s train, a nature center, and paved and compact soil trails.
At the southern end of the park on Democracy Boulevard, the nature center offers a wonderland of exploration opportunities: a wildlife observation deck, a butterfly naturalist garden, an indoor oak tree exhibit, live animals (such as resident corn and black snakes), and the outdoor natural playground. Before enjoying the natural playground, take this 1.4-mile hike through a meadow, among tall tulip poplars, and along the Cabin John Stream. Before reaching the center entrance, turn right and head up the steps on the Upland Meadow Trail, marked by a trail post. To the left of the trail are the natural playground and the butterfly garden."
