Hopkins Memorial Forest and Taconic Crest Trail

Hopkins Memorial Forest and Taconic Crest Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This excursion features monumental hardwood trees, babbling brooks, thrilling vistas, and a geologic curiosity: Snow Hole. Amble up the gravel drive between apple trees and a small meadow, where tree swallows and bluebirds nest in boxes that provide housing for cavity-nesting birds. The Rosenburg Visitor Center (once a carriage house) serves as forest
headquarters.

Excellent trail maps are available at the kiosk that features a posted trail map and historical information. Bear right past Buxton Garden onto a gravel carriage road. The relocated former Moon Farm barn stands on the left. Tread beneath a canopy of sugar maple, black locust, and white ash, passing
by the Williams College Outing Club cabin. A bit beyond stands a maple sugar shed. An adjacent field hosts the forest’s main weather station."
