Berlin Mountain

Berlin Mountain Professional Review and Guide

"A challenging ride on a beaten-up old trail with lots of mud and rocks to the highest point in the Taconic Mountains. If you think of the things that can pose technical challenges along a bike trail, this trip has just about all of them: loose stone, steep descents, washed-out sections of trailbed, hundreds of yards of staircase ledge, deep ruts, puddles the size of swimming pools, exposed rock and roots, and lots of slick, deep mud. This trip is definitely an experience, and many if not most people will have to walk a portion of it.

The trip begins at the large parking area on the south side of Petersburg Pass just over the Massachusetts line in Petersburg, New York. A ski area once operated on the hillside here, and the open slopes are still evident on the steep northern flank of Mount Raimer. Begin the trip at the southwest corner of the parking area where the Taconic Crest Trail (TCT) begins to traverse the northwest slope of Raimer, passing a beautiful view into East Hollow and Petersburg on the right."
