Westport River East Branch Hix Bridge to Head of Westport

Westport River (East Branch): Hix Bridge to Head of Westport Professional Review and Guide

"The East Branch of the Westport River is a good option when 20-to-30-knot northwest winds tear up Westport Harbor and make a trip out the Lions Tongue to the great Atlantic and Halfmile Rock inadvisable. The East Branch of the Westport River turns around Westport Point, then joins the West Branch at Westport Harbor.

The channel passes between Horseneck and Acoaxet (the Indian name for this river) and out into the Atlantic, not far from the Rhode Island border. The view is of Cuttyhunk Island, part of the Elizabeth Island chain. The East Branch travels inland for nearly 7 miles. A protected, bucolic paddle is the upper half from Hix Bridge to the town of Westport Head."
