Great Island Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Cape Cod National Seashore draws countless beachgoers to its sandy expanses and bike enthusiasts to its paved paths; however, the park also includes miles of hiking trails. The most challenging and rugged, by far, is the Great Island Trail. Jutting southward on the west side of Wellfleet Harbor, Great Island has a storied past of Native American settlers, European whalers, and small communities long since swallowed by the shifting seas. Today, Great Island is an oasis of seabirds, fiddler crabs, pitch pine forests, and towering sand dunes. For optimum enjoyment, venture here during low to mid-tide; parts of the trail, particularly near Jeremy Point, may be underwater at high tide."
