Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The island of Martha’s Vineyard, just 5 miles off of the south shore of Cape Cod, attracted its first permanent white settlers in 1642 and now, nearly 350 years later, welcomes a flood of visitors each summer. You may want to plan your trip for September or October, when the days are still warm enough for outdoor fun but the crowds have returned to the mainland. (By late fall, however, many restaurants, inns, and stores have closed for the season.)
The Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamship Authority is the main ferry line that carries cars across to the island; the ferry leaves from Woods Hole (on the shoulder of the Cape) for Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. Kids will relish the forty-five-minute ferry ride, sitting on the breezy open deck and watching the sea gulls, fishing boats, and approaching island."
