Hubbard Brook Granville State Forest to Barkhamsted Reservoir

Hubbard Brook: Granville State Forest to Barkhamsted Reservoir Professional Review and Guide

"Hubbard Brook is a small, steep stream that runs through Granville State Forest in Massachusetts just north of the border with Connecticut. It is naturally flowing, so you must catch it immediately after a rainstorm, heavy snowmelt, or both. The river is isolated—it runs through a state forest for its entire length—and many of the drops are big.

The hairiest ones are easily portaged, and they should at least be scouted before each run. Because of its isolation the scenery is exceptional, with dense forests on each side and only one power-line cut to disturb the otherwise pristine setting. The Hubbard is narrow, so downed trees often determine which rapids are runnable."

I live close to Hubbard Brook and hike in this area frequently. I would say there is rarely enough water to paddle. In the spring, the river was raging... flood stage and quite dangerous due to downed trees. Very nice area to hike. Rating is for hikikng, not paddling.
