Mount Toby Trail

Mount Toby Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The strenuous hike to the summit of Mount Toby is best suited for older children who have an appreciation of geology and botany. (A trip to the library for appropriate field guides is a prerequisite for the trip.)

The mountain’s rugged slopes are punctuated with outcroppings of coarse conglomerate called “puddingstone.” The area is also known for its wide variety of plants, most notably ferns and orchids. Local botanists claim that Mount Toby nurtures a greater diversity of plant life than any other spot in New England of equal acreage."
