Until 1974, the 1000-acre property was a private home and dairy farm. Then the park service purchased it to preserve a little piece of New England’s farming history. You’ll discover some old stone walis as you wander the main trail. Even older stone walis, dating back to the 16008, may be seen on the other side of the park, in an area called “The City.""
