From the easy access to the creek to the gentle current and the lovely salt marsh vistas, this section of Scorton Creek offers a fine experience for families and newer paddlers. Put in and paddle inland, away from the Route 6A bridge. You soon find yourself immersed in the massive salt marsh habitat extending eastward into Barnstable and its large harbor. You can no longer paddle through the bulk of the marsh to reach Barnstable Harbor—development has seen to that—but this upper stretch above your put-in point allows you and your party to practice strokes and get used to your boats while enjoying fine salt marsh scenery.
