West Lake

West Lake Professional Review and Guide

"Tucked in a wooded fragment of Sandisfield State Forest, this lake is a quiet wonderland with beaver, birds, and more. West lake is a quiet, very attractive lake within one of the many disconnected land tracts that make up Sandisfield State Forest in the southern Berkshires. Even on crowded days there are less than a dozen people here; most fishing from boats that drift lazily across the water.

A journey up the eastern shore brings you past beaver lodges and brushy habitat where a diverse number of songbirds nest in the warmer months. The north cove is a grab bag of marshy shore, brook, and steep banks with nearly ever-present wildlife. Finally the west shore holds long stretches of attractive wooded shore and a boggy tamarack and sweet gale patch where deep red cranberries grow."
