Halibut Point Reservation

Halibut Point Reservation Professional Review and Guide

"At first glance, Halibut Point appears to have always been an out-of-the-way nature preserve on a point jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean. Dig deeper into history, and you’ll learn this secluded stretch of granite first started out as an outpost for a condemned woman during the Salem Witch Trials.

A wilderness filled with bears, wolves, and Agawam natives, the area was not incorporated as an independent town until 1840, when granite quarrying was in full swing. Workers extracted large blocks of granite by hand, shipping them by sloop across the globe. Now the remaining open pits and piles of granite chunks stand as a reminder of this once-illustrious industry that ceased in 1929 with the Great Depression and the advent of concrete."
