We hiked a portion of the Midstate Trail from Redemption Rock south, looping around the summit of Wachusett mountain, and back again. It was an excellent hike, with beautiful pine forests near Redemption Rock, a marshy meadow leading to the ski area at Wachusett, then a well maintanined loop to the summit and back. Beware that the trail is quite overgrown and nearly invisible through the meadow along Route 140 just North of the ski area. The yellow triangle marks are still clearly visible on the trees, but you need to bushwack through the bushes and thorns for a couple hundred feet or so. Also at the ski area you need to cross the parking lot to reach the trailhead on the other side.
