For decades, this National Seashore fire road just west of the Provincetown airport sat under the radar, so to speak, drawing only locals, seasonal hunters, and National Seashore employees on patrol or with specific maintenance assignments. But in recent years, the route has become a favorite with birders, dog walkers, and those seeking to reach the lighthouse on firmer footing than the leg-challenging beach route from the Race Point parking lot. Park your vehicle and pass through a typical fire road gate. Note the signs for ticks and poison ivy. (This route—at least the initial section bounded by wetland and woods—is especially mosquito-friendly, so don’t forget the bug repellent.)
