Roundabout Rutland Cruise Professional Review and Guide
"Even though Rutland lies in the exact geographical center of Massachusetts, still no one knows about it. Which is precisely its appeal to cyclists. Mount Wachusett is a few miles northeast of this ride. A state reservation, it's a popular place for hiking, skiing, and cycling to its summit on a paved road. In the nearby countryside, though, it's gentler riding on rolling rural highways and shady lanes, passing hardwood forests, farms, the occasional pond, and several picturesque small towns.
Terrain: rolling rural roads with no major climbs. Pavement conditions alternate between smoother rural highways, usually with wide shoulders, and narrow lanes with occasional patchier sections. Traffic/Safety: ride single file on the narrower, more winding roads, watching for occasional soft shoulders and approaching traffic. And be sure to stay in control of your bike on the steeper descents."
