Old Colony Rail Trail, Harwich to Chatham Professional Review and Guide
"The Old Colony Rail Trail (OCRT) starts at the Harwich Bike Rotary and connects the Cape Cod Rail Trail to points in Harwich and Chatham. This ride can be started from either end or combined with Ride 17 to make a longer ride, although there is no vehicle parking at the Harwich Bike Rotary (nearby parking at Brooks Park). It’s a relatively easy and flat ride, with a few short climbs and descents, good for families and kids.
The Old Colony Rail Trail (OCRT) is the newest extension of rail trail connecting the Cape Cod Rail Trail (CCRT) to Chatham via Harwich, and was completed in 2004. Starting at the Harwich Bike Rotary, the trail goes east through Harwich Center to Crowell Road in Chatham, and then cyclists can take back roads to Veteran’s Field, the Chatham Railroad Museum, and Main Street in Chatham.
Start this ride connecting from any point on the CCRT, at the Harwich Bike Rotary in Harwich. Follow the sign for Old Colony Rail Trail heading east to Harwich Center, and pass by Island Pond Conservation Area, followed by the Island Pond Cemetery, on the left. The trail goes slightly uphill here through the woods."
