Savoy Mountain State Forest Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This loop follows a two-track multiuse trail through northern hardwood forests for a visit to Tannery Falls, then climbs the quiet Ross Brook Trail to Balanced Rock before cruising back on a gravel road. You can swim in the state forest at either North Pond or South Pond, though there is a lifeguard only at the former.
This wooded peak doesn’t offer much of a view, but on a summer day the wildflower meadow around the fire tower is worth the climb on its own. You return downhill along the Balance Rock Trail, and then along the Ross Brook Trail. As a consequence of being open to vehicles, the Tannery Trail and Balance Rock Trail are deeply rutted, with wide mud puddles that create even wider trails as hikers and bikers swerve around them. Try to be sensitive to this trend, and skirt the puddles closely to avoid making the trails even worse."
