Long Pond - Pond Promenade Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This easy out-and-back stroll beside Long Pond explores part of a 64-acre property owned by the Nantucket Islands Land Bank. The various habitats— grassland, heathland, pond, shrubland, and wetland—along with the presence of an osprey pole, which may have an active nest, make this an ideal walk for birders and native-plant enthusiasts.
From the trailhead, which is marked by a split-rail fence and a gate, follow a grassy, shrub-bordered path that leads along the southeast side of Long Pond. The opposite shore is lined with houses, dramatizing the value of preserving open space. An osprey pole ahead may be occupied by a nesting pair of the fish-eating raptors, whose return from the DDT-caused brink of extinction is one of the great environmental success stories."
