Altar Rock - Moorish Delight Trail

Altar Rock - Moorish Delight Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This moderate walk is but a brief introduction to the Middle Moors, a vast tract of rolling hills, kettle ponds, and cranberry bogs in the heart of Nantucket.

Although John Muir derided sheep as “hoofed locusts” for their decimation of Yosemite’s vegetation, sheep and other livestock grazing on Nantucket in the 1800s, along with poor soils and salty air, helped create the grasslands and heathlands enjoyed today by walkers, bicyclists, birders, nature enthusiasts, and others. Land managers use various techniques to help keep land free from encroaching trees and shrubs."
