Northfield Mountain Recreation Area

Northfield Mountain Recreation Area Professional Review and Guide

"At this 1,500-acre playground, 25 miles of interlocking foot and carriage-width trails offer a variety of hiking and cross-country ski tours. Power lines and a reservoir overlook hint at the site’s host, Northeast Utilities; the generating facility sits 700 feet underground. May through October, a bus tour runs to the summit, offering hikers the option of downhill travel only.

Two loops travel the west flank of Northfield Mountain, topping the peak and exploring its ledges. Within the web of trails, find numerous other tour possibilities. Special attractions: conifer-deciduous forest, granite-gneiss ledges, mountain and sheep laurel, vistas, fall foliage."
