"A manicured nineteenth-century estate with raised-bed gardens, frontage on the Merrimack River, hedgerows, and arbors. The two Maudsley State Park walks in this book are clockwise loops around various parts of the former estate grounds and plantings, both joining up with the Merrimack River Trail for a stretch, then doubling back. On this walk, you see the formal Moseley Estate plantings.
The Hedge Drive Trail begins at a stone wall opening 100 yards west of the Maudslay State Park headquarters on Curzon Mill Road. The trail begins along Hedge Drive, skirting a softly rolling field on the right and bordered by stately, ancient maple trees on the left.
Special Features: flowering rhododendrons, mountain laurels, and roses, a white pine forest, and wonderful views of the Merrimack River."
