Housatonic River: New Lenox Road to Woods Pond Professional Review and Guide
"All of the Housatonic River trips take you through areas rich in wildlife and scenery. This section is especially beautiful and is the stretch of river selected by the Massachusetts Audubon’s Pleasant Valley Sanctuary for their guided river trips. The current is slow, which means paddling is easy with just a few strainers and other obstacles to negotiate.
The chance to view a range of wildlife is excellent. Deer, black bear, fox, otter, beaver, and muskrat all can be found here, as can many, many species of birds. This trip is fun anytime during the season. For bird-watching the period during fall migration often offers the most sightings and the best variety. The trip passes through parts of the Housatonic River Valley State Management Area."
