Lower Ipswich River

Lower Ipswich River Professional Review and Guide

"Paddling the Ipswich River can be a strenuous adventure or a gentle meander though beautiful salt marsh. Kayakers seeking an easy trip can explore the very narrow Labor in Vain Creek and paddle just short of Plum Island Sound to explore more salt marshes north and south of the river. Stronger kayakers can ply the reaches of Plum Island Sound, paddling north to Plum Island or south to Crane Beach. In any direction, this is marvelous territory to explore by kayak.

Two salt-marsh conservation areas, lovely Greenwood Farm owned by The Trustees of Reservations and Sally Weatherall Memorial Reservation owned by the Essex County Greenbelt Association, add beauty and additional paddling options. Attractions: Beautiful salt marsh; extensive bird life, especially in fall."
