Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary Trail

Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary Trail Professional Review and Guide

"It doesn’t take long to realize what a special place Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary is. This 1200-acre Massachusetts Audubon property, with its 12.8 miles of trails encompasses many different habitats and is a great place for exploring and learning about wildlife. And the layout is ideal for kids. The trails are well marked, have benches and good turnaround points at almost every junction, and provide many opportunities for viewing wildlife and points of interest.

The hike described is a combination of five different trails, offering some highlights of the best Wachusett Meadow has to offer. But don’t come here expecting everything to be exactly as described. These are active changing habitats, and what is there now may be different when you venture out. Beavers especially are hard at work building dams and changing the landscape—viewing platforms and trails sometimes have to be moved as a result. Do expect to spend time here, though—there are so many places to stop and enjoy that you won’t want to rush. If you still have energy, you may also want to explore some of the other trails in the sanctuary."
