Shaker Mountain

Shaker Mountain Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike leads from the beautifully maintained Hancock Shaker Village to ruins and religious sites atop the neighboring hills in what is now Pittsfield State Forest.

When you register at the contemporary visitor center (restrooms available), you will be asked for your name and contact information, and to check in upon your return. Passes for hiking are given free of charge. Consider leaving a donation to support the good work being done by this nonprofit. Pick up Boy Scout Trail interpretive material that gives a great deal of information about this Shaker community. You might want to tour the village’s many historic buildings now or upon your return, but be sure to leave sufficient time to complete your hike. You may also want to consider making the hike during a weekday to avoid all-terrain vehicles (ATVs)."
