Great Barrington Cruise

Great Barrington Cruise Professional Review and Guide

"The Great Barrington Cruise is adapted from the Great Josh Billings RunAground, a triathlon run every fall. This ride follows the triathlon's cycling course almost to Stockbridge. It then turns south on Route 183, a smooth background that rolls along the shaded banks of the Housatonic River, to complete a loop back to Great Barrington.

Nineteenth-century summer homes and hillside farms line the backroads from Great Barrington to West Stockbridge. Terrain: rolling hills, with only two climbs of more than .5 mile in length. The first marks the beginning of the tour; the second, its middle. Fairly smooth road surface and light traffic. Traffic/Safety: watch for potentially heavy traffic on Rte. 7. Also, be careful at the 27-mile mark on Rte. 41, as the road narrows and winds beneath a railroad bridge."
