Cape Ann: Circumnavigation Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Cape Ann thrusts a gnarly head into the great Atlantic and makes for dramatic paddling along 20 miles of rocky shore indented by granite coves, deep harbors, and pocket beaches. The Annisquam River, which cuts through Cape Ann on the western perimeter, makes Cape Ann an island—and circumnavigation possible.
The clockwise trip around Cape Ann starts and ends in Gloucester in the Annisquam River and combines several paddling environments: the protected Annisquam River with summer houses lining the banks, waves breaking off the desolate but dramatic Halibut Point, ocean swells around Thacher Island, a long, mesmerizing stretch down Gloucester’s eastern shore, and the busy and historic Gloucester Harbor."
