Eye-popping panoramas just keep on coming—from Lagoon Pond in Vineyard Haven to the headwall overlooking nantucket Sound at east Chop in oak Bluffs, and along the barrier beach beside Sengekontacket Pond! Swimming is possible anywhere along the 2-mile-long Joseph A. Sylvia State Beach. Begin at the Steamship Authority Dock at the end of Union Street in Vineyard Haven. Because of heavy traffic, I suggest walking your bike to Water Street and then turning left. Continue walking your bike past the Black Dog Bakery on the left and the Stop & Shop across the street. Both stores can supply you with food and drink to take on the trip. At the busy “Five Corners” intersection, bear left onto Beach Road, heading toward Oak Bluffs.
