Manuel F. Correllus State Forest - Spruce Circuit Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The “trails” in this 5,100-acre state forest consist of multiuse fire lanes, dirt paths, and paved bicycle trails. A magical world of pines, oaks, and nonnative evergreens awaits the walker willing to leave the often busy bicycle trails and fire lanes and venture onto the sometimes overgrown dirt paths. This state forest also contains sandplain grasslands, a rapidly vanishing habitat that is home to a variety of rare plants and animals.
The level trail runs through a shady corridor of trees and shrubs, parallel to the busy Edgartown-West Tisbury Road. Where the trail straightens and before it starts to climb, turn right onto an unsigned and possibly overgrown dirt trail. Now enter a secluded, densely forested realm, where stands of white spruce, unusual on the Cape and Islands, border the trail, along with low-growing oaks and black huckleberry."
