Warner Hill

Warner Hill Professional Review and Guide

"This is an enjoyable hike on the Appalachian Trail through northern hardwoods interspersed with evergreens. Warner Hill’s partially cleared summit yields a pleasing view of Mount Greylock.

Cross to the south side of the road (be alert for traffic speeding downhill around the curve) and ascend the rather steep slope on the white-blazed Appalachian Trail (AT) lined with white ash, red maple, black cherry, and American beech. Note the interesting steplike gneiss rock outcrop studded with quartz crystals. As you level out, prince’s pine and cedar clubmoss—ancient nonflowering plants—add a fairyland quality to the forest floor. On the right stands a fine yellow birch, one of the classic northern hardwood forest indicators."
