Walden Pond State Reservation Trail Professional Review and Guide
"Walden Pond, once home to author Henry David Thoreau, is a beloved local landmark. In summer, it is perhaps a bit too beloved-so many people throng to this swimming hole (a kettle pond) on a hot summer day, cars are turned away once capacity is reached.
As many as 600,000 people visit the reservation each year, mostly in July and August, with crowds tapering off during fall foliage season. Poetry readings, kids’ junior ranger activities, Thoreau walks, and, of course, swimming, hiking, and picnicking, draw families from Boston and the ’burbs during the bustling high season."
