Brimfield State Forest

Brimfield State Forest Professional Review and Guide

"The town of Brimfield, between Worcester and Springfield, about 60 miles west of Boston. Most of the ride is flat, but there are several short climbs on loose terrain. Be prepared for some downhill stretches of loose rock and minor obstructions."

We visited on an overcast summer day. The first thing that I must say is that the map provided on this site is inadequate and inaccurate. The first sympton started when they said that the parking area would be on the left (it was actualy on the right). Not a good start since knowing something as basic as left and right is important. Next, we followed the map provided and ended up back at our car prematurely. We retraced our steps and realized that the map was inaccurate in a significant way. We then located a local trail map which was better. Though I will say that even that had some errors (i.e. mis-spelled street names). The trails in this area are poorly marked if at all. When the days was done, we biked 10 miles on a combination of paved, unpaved, very hilly, and very rocky roads. I would rate this area intermediate to advanced because of the hilly and (in some areas) exceedingly rocky roads. I expect to try this area to see if a better map and more time will produce a better experience.

This can be a four-season ride. The roads are well-drained, which makes them less muddy in the spring.
