Lake Nippenicket, Hockomock Swamp, and Town River

Lake Nippenicket, Hockomock Swamp, and Town River Professional Review and Guide

"Hockomock Swamp is an extraordinary paddling resource with huge biodiversity. Take care not to get lost in the swamp’s depths. Lake Nippenicket may experience significant boat traffic at times, but on a quiet morning can be pleasant—and it offers access to the swamp. You can paddle the Town River within the swamp or a separate downstream section, where you can’t get lost.

Lake Nippenicket, locally known as “The Nip,” is a modest-sized, shallow lake between Brockton and Taunton. While the lake offers pleasant paddling, don’t expect solitude on the lake itself, as motorboats and personal watercraft dominate on popular weekends, and you hear a lot of road noise from Route
24 and I-495, both of which come within a half-mile of the lake."
