Within two minutes of entering this lightly visited, under-appreciated recreation area, my wife and I met two women on horses. One of the horses was wearing what appeared to be mosquito netting over its mouth, but it was just a food muzzle, the horse’s rider informed me. The animal likes to stop and nibble anything and everything, “and he can be very headstrong.” Then again, the Punkhorn Parklands can accommodate every mood, from feisty to serene.
