Shining Sea is an apt description for this lovely rail-trail linking the center of Falmouth with its southwestern-most village, Woods Hole. The sun indeed glitters on Vineyard Sound and at Woods Hole Harbor, two highlights of your trip. The bikeway, which opened in 1975, follows a former spur of the New York-New Haven rail line that once ran the length of the Cape. But it’s older by three years than the Cape Cod Rail Trail, which today follows the main rail from Dennis on the mid-Cape out to Wellfleet.
