The Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"History buffs flock to Boston to follow the Freedom Trail, a winding tour of the Revolutionary War sites scattered through downtown, the North End, and Charlestown.

While portions of the Freedom Trail are difficult to navigate by bike, this ride hits the major highlights on a route that begins and ends on the Boston Common. It also throws in side excursions through the Navy Yard and Beacon Hill that give you a sense for how present-day Boston still reflects its colonial heritage beyond the preserved sites along the trail."

"You’d certainly be hard-pressed to find a more iconic urban hike than Boston’s Freedom Trail. If you have the time to explore all the historic sites along this route, you can easily spend an entire day, but perhaps a weekend is more realistic if you want the full experience of stopping for lunch at one of the many authentic Italian restaurants in the North End and exploring the Charles River waterfront surrounding the USS Constitution, aka Old Ironsides. Not only is Boston a world-class city literally studded with historical landmarks like those on the Freedom Trail as well as Bunker Hill and Faneuil Hall, but the metropolitan area as well as all of eastern Massachusetts is peppered with obvious monuments to the past, and less apparent treasures lie just around the corner where you least expect them."
