On and around Boston Common

On and around Boston Common Professional Review and Guide

"This is the essential “getting-to-know-the-real-Boston” walk. Much of what Boston is famous for and what you came to see can be found along this walk—history, architecture, nature, human and literary interest stories, and people watching—plus it is an excellent way to stretch your legs in the middle of a great city.

The Common is America’s first public park, the site of many important and interesting historical events, and the location of the Shaw Memorial and other statuary. The Public Garden, a place of great beauty, is America’s first public botanical garden. A distinction is made between the Common—owned by all, with libertarian rules of conduct—and the Public Garden—“publicly owned,” with restrictive rules.

Special attractions: The Common, the Public Garden, Park Street Church, the Granary Burying Ground, the Cheers bar, and many other architectural and historic sites."
