Logan Airport - East Boston

Logan Airport - East Boston Professional Review and Guide

"This walk is for those stuck at Logan Airport or anyone wanting great views of Boston Harbor or a better acquaintance with East Boston. Walk by the water along lovely Harbor Walk through an interesting, historic part of East Boston to Piers Park—aptly named since it is a charming park on a renovated pier. Special attractions: Views of Boston Harbor and its shoreline, a lovely park on a pier, and a major U.S. immigrant historical entry point.

East Boston—“Eastie” to locals—was settled by Europeans before Boston. It was, at least at low tide, originally five islands. Noddle Island was, in 1637, the first neighborhood annexed by Boston. Landfill joined all five islands into one around 1830. Noddle and Breed/Hog Islands are East Boston’s residential and commercial area. Boston Noddle Island Pavilion, Piers Park, East Boston. Logan Airport covers the remaining two-thirds—Governor’s, Apple, and Bird Islands—and Wood Island Park, once one of Olmsted’s handsomest parks."
