There was a time in the early and mid–19th century when Boston was the preeminent American city and New York was playing catch-up. The remains of that financial powerhouse are located in the district of Boston just opposite the wharves and south of Quincy Market. This walk ambles along avenues of skyscrapers, stops to enjoy a lovely midtown park oasis, and pokes into a few historic buildings before navigating some crooked back streets and hidden alleys to return to its starting place near the historic Old State House. Savor this walk in the spring, when the first warm days fill the park at Post Office Square and color bursts from the blooming tulips and daffodils.
