Perfect little hike for kids. I carried my 2 yo in a pack, as there are lots of ruts and rocks to trip on for a toddler, but a 4 yo could probably walk the whole loop.

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"The Berkshires are located in the far west section of Massachusetts, in the rolling hills between New York and Boston. Well known for their natural beauty and ease of access, the Berkshires have inspired great authors and artists such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Norman Rockwell, Herman Melville, and Henry David Thoreau over the years. Hike around the 35-acre Benedict Pond, taking a rest halfway to sit on the bench gazing over the pond and listen to the children swim and play. This easy-to-follow flat hike is great for beginners or hikers with young children. Possible wildlife sightings include deer, bobcat, beaver, and bear, to name a few." Read more

"This loop includes circumambulation of one of the Berkshires’ most scenic ponds, spiced up with a fine laurel bloom in late June, and a splendid viewpoint from The Ledges." Read more
"The views of Benedict Pond as you’re hiking in and the views of the surrounding forest from the top of Th e Ledges make this a spectacular hike." Read more

"This hike has an unusual trailhead—a beach. From the swimming area on Benedict Pond, you will hike on a side trail along this beautiful glacial pond and then on the A.T. Your destination is The Ledges, a rocky ridge that affords fine views of Mount Everett and East Mountain. You can also see the Catskills rising in the distance. This hike is quite steep in some places but is only rated as moderate because it is relatively short in length. You may want to save time for a swim in the pond. You can also rent canoes by the hour at the beach." Read more
