Massachusetts’s Nashua River Rail Trail is just south of the New Hampshire border. This pretty trail is only an hour’s drive north of Boston but feels wonderfully secluded, offering a nice respite from city life. The trail begins as a woodland trail. Houses are visible for the first 1.0 mile. At the 1.0-mile mark the trail becomes marshy, with ferns and reeds among the trees. At 2.0 miles lily pads float atop a pond that bisects the trail. Beyond the pond is a pasture—a perfect place to take advantage of the granite benches situated here.
